Downtown busy streets creep by
we ride in airy bus, lamenting
German eyes obscure your truth
your words appearing merely friendly
Inquiries about my past
I tell you all my lonely tales
a few more blocks until we're back
and I just feel we've made a bond.
Suddenly the focus shifts
the true attraction shows itself
you lean toward me, leeringly
attempt a kiss I can't receive
For I have no interest in you
a woman's love is all I crave
you tell yourself I'm just confused
that I could love a man as well
Rumors fly with full abandon
friends give looks of wry surprise
believing yours to be the truth
while my recants all find no ears
Love misplaced grows fangs of green
words dishonest sing their song
Friendly trust melts into nothing
I walk on with thoughts of stone.
